Our Story
The understanding of interconnectedness of actions, the paramount intentions behind it and their consequences i.e. is ‘Karma’ for the world and ‘Design’ for our studio. Design is not a mere practice here but a constant ongoing process that reflects the mindfulness of our actions, behaviour, compassion and heightened awareness of the interconnected web of existence/ functions. It’s not always a linear, straightforward connection between cause & effect, between functions & spaces, between problem & solutions but there always lies a much complex yet most simple variable that shapes the outcome, in life this variable is intention and in design it is ‘The User’. It is this variable that adds infinite possibilities to the solution of same problem, infinite design conclusion for the same function and this is what makes us passionate about what we do as architects and a team who is dedicated to create solutions in form of spaces and falls in love with the process every single time.
It's fascinating how ‘Karma’ resonates with our human understanding of accountability & interconnectedness, invites introspection and encourages us to be mindful of our choices and acknowledges that the energy we put into the world has a reciprocal effect. Somewhat on the similar lines we believe that Design is a Karma that has potential to alter the life of its user and, in a larger frame, of its creator forever without any biasness.

About Studio Desk in Dehradun
It is only true to say that not only Studio Desk chose Dehradun as it’s home, but Dehradun also chose us, accepted us, allowed us and motivated us and our designs to blend with its nonpareil beauty. We are in awe of ever-changing colours of Dehradun sky since 2015 when we first came here and never left. The mountains around us, the jungles, the countless hidden streams are our forever muse and keep inspiring us to create something as beautiful every-day. Dehradun is our home by choice and we try to show our gratitude through every space that we design.
What we Seek?
The ease and accuracy of our actions ensures and advances the probability of desired outcome. When our intentions are less complex, attaining happiness becomes much simpler. When we do what is needed, we achieve what is desired. A similar philosophy translates into all our designs.
We constantly seek to keep our designs free from any distractions, to respect the functions and respect ‘the constant variable’ that comes with every new design. We are in constant ‘practice’ at every moment of our being to acknowledge what is needed and what is just a layer of rouge applied to cover the raw beauty and truthfulness of spaces and its intentions. When we are able to see beauty in minimalism, every new layer added becomes a compromise. We seek to create spaces free of compromise. We seek to bring a change, a revolution, where the mass becomes the beholder of such beauty.

Architect Suryamani, the young brutalist designer is the founder of Studio Design Karma. His vision is to create effortless spaces that speak for themselves through the beauty of functionality. His minimalistic approach can be seen not only in all his designs but in his ways of life. The ease and the simplicity in his spaces create a sense of contentment and respect towards the intention of the space. He believes that every building is uniquely defined by its user. It takes a lot of courage and genius to see beauty in rawness, to be free of any distractions and appreciate the truthfulness in functions. He is dedicated to design buildings that support and enhance the unique lifestyle of each of his client.

Gauri has vast experience in the sectors of urban planning, housing, land-use and urban sanitation. She has worked with various state government departments in Uttarakhand, Himanchal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Though her expertise is in managing the upscale projects, she is strongly inclined towards bringing affordability into mainstream. A reader and researcher by interest, Gauri believes that ‘Creativity and discipline are two sides of the same coin. A poise among these two and use of technology to endure the poise can create wonders.’

Working experience of 20+ years and a life dedicated towards architecture, Chandra Bhushan Singh is an epitome of perfection. A seasoned architect with a young imagination and unconventional methods, he express his creed as “Creating a beauty from the nature for the nature is a joy forever. To achieve, we are free to use the most advanced tools techniques while carving. However, using advanced and industrialised material to be carved, ruins the eternal beauty of our creation.
Habitat on mother Earth shall not have too much of a generation gap. Justice to the nature is an awesome architecture.”

Darshan has been a part of Sudio Des-K since beginning of his architecture journey. Started as an intern, Darshan is now one of the key designers of the team. In his own words “the world is an institute of intercourses; intercourse with society, with nature, with art, with skills, with passion, with universe, with own self and many more. My vision is to create such entities either united or departed where the consciousness of these intercourses goes live and rest all get dissolved in it.”
